DEFECT #1 - STEERING:GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION)

Posted on: 1989-08-02
Description
The steering gear mounting bracket welds may crack under certain steering load conditions.

Consequence
Steering control would be adversely affected withpotential for loss of truck control and an accident.

Corrective Action
Replace steering gear mounting bracket with a redesigned bracket.

Notes
System:steering gear mounting bracket.vehicle description:heavy duty trucks.

DEFECT #2 - STRUCTURE:BODY

Posted on: 1989-07-22
Description
Corrosion of the grabhandle at its mounting surface may lead to cracking or loss of strength.

Consequence
Failure of grabhandle during use could result inpersonal injury.

Corrective Action
Replace grabhandle and its fastener with improved grabhandle; also, install gasket between the handle and air starter reservoir.

Notes

DEFECT #3 - EQUIPMENT:AIR CONDITIONER

Posted on: 1988-08-22
Description
The heater/air conditioner blower motor speed control resistors can under certain conditions overheat and stall.

Consequence
This could result in low air flow across the resistornetwork and high amperage, allowing the air duct to reach elevated temperatureswith the possibility of a fire.

Corrective Action
Install a thermo cutoff device in the heater/air conditioner system and/or replace the blower motor switch.

Notes
System: heater/air conditioner blower motor.vehicle description: long conventional and high cab over engine trucks.

DEFECT #4 - STEERING:LINKAGES:LINK:DRAG:CONNECTION

Posted on: 1985-01-07

DEFECT #5 - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE

Posted on: 1985-06-18
Description
Cracks can develop in the oil filter mounting brackets near the bolts that attach the brackets to the frame side member.  Consequence of defect: if cracks progress to the point of failure, the filter assembly could fall out and possibly be struck by other vehicles creating a potential for an accident.

Consequence

Corrective Action
Brackets will be replaced with improved design brackets.

Notes

DEFECT #6 - STEERING:LINKAGES

Posted on: 1983-02-28
Description
The left brake slack adjuster and the steering pitman arm may interfere with each other during a sharp right turn with the brakes applied.  The interference may restrict the movement of the steering linkage or the air chamber push rod in the left front brake, depending on the circumstances.

Consequence

Corrective Action
The dealer will modify placement of the left hand brake air chamber at no cost to owner.  The modification will be accomplished by installing new brake camshaft mounting brackets and backing plates on both left and right front brakes.

Notes
Vehicle description: heavy trucks.system: service brakes; front brake camshaft mounting brackets and backingplates.consequences of defect: with the brakes applied, steering action in a sharpright hand turn may be restricted.  Similarly, during a sharp right turn, braking action at the left front wheel may be reduced.  The affected system willusually be the second action taken by the driver (either braking or turning).loss of vehicle control or an accident could result.
