DEFECT #1 - STEERING:GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION)

Description
The assembly that connects the steering shaft to the steering gear has a loose connection which allows excessive play in the steering wheel.

Consequence


Corrective Action
If the components are found to be loose, a steering sprocket and yoke assembly will be replaced.  If the splines of the steering gear input shaft are worn, the shaft will also be replaced.

Vehicle description: trucks, series 3600 and 3400.system: steering; shaft.consequences of defect: this condition could cause loss of steering control,resulting in an accident.
