The Ferrari Mondial was introduced in 1980 as a mid-sized coupe and, eventually, a cabriole, designed by Pininfarina, replacing the replacing the angular 208/308 GT4.
The Mondial was produced in fairly high numbers for a Ferrari, with more than 6,800 produced in its 13-year run.
Original released as the Mondial 8 and powered by a fuel injected 3.0 litre V8 engine. In 1982 the capacity was increased a 32valve version as the Mondial Quattrovalvole and in 1985 as a larger 3.2 litre engine 3.2 Mondial .
The final Mondial evolution was 1989's Mondial t (Coupe and Cabriolet) had a larger 3.4 litre engine. It was a substantially changed model, It was visually different from preceding Mondial models, the most recognisable being the redesign of the air intakes to a smaller, neater rectangular shape. The door-handles were of a visually different design and, along with the bumpers, became body coloured, whilst a painted black band was added around the bottom of the body. The previously transverse engine was now longitudinally mounted, while the gearbox remained transverse. Thus forming a T. By adopting this layout, a longer engine could be mounted lower in the chassis, improving handling dramatically. The t also introduced Ferrari's first power assisted steering and had a 3-position electronically controlled suspension for a variable trade off between ride quality and road holding. It also had standard ABS.

DEFECT #1 - SUSPENSION:MULTIPLE AXLE

Posted on: 1986-06-20
Description
Under certain specific load conditions, such as accidental high speed impacts on the rear suspension system, the rear wheel bearings and hub assemblies could deteriorate.  Consequence of defect: prolonged use of deteriorated wheel bearings and hub assemblies results in rear end noise and vibration.  This could ultimatly cause impaired handling and possible loss of control, resulting in an accident.

Consequence

Corrective Action
Replace both right and left rear hub/hub carrier assemblies.

Notes
System: rear wheel bearings and hub assemblies.  Vehicle description: passenger cars.

DEFECT #2 - FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Posted on: 1985-01-18
Description
There may be interference between the fuel tank and surrounding panels causing abrasion of the fuel tank surface.  Consequences of defect: abrasion could affect the integrity of the fuel tank and result in fuel leakage and a fire hazard.

Consequence

Corrective Action
Install protective polyurethane cushions between body panels and fuel tank.

Notes
Vehicle description: passenger cars.system: fuel tank.

DEFECT #3 - SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING

Posted on: 1985-01-18
Description
The front wheel bearing may deteriorate, causing vibration and noise from the front suspension assembly.  Consequence of defect: continued use of the car after noticing vibration and noise could cause handling difficulty and result in loss of control and an accident.

Consequence

Corrective Action
Replace part of both right and left wheel hub assembly.

Notes
Vehicle description: passenger cars.  System: front wheel bearing.

DEFECT #4 - STEERING:WHEEL AND HANDLE BAR

Posted on: 1985-01-18
Description
The splined coupling between the steering column and steering box could develop internal corrosion due to its exposed position and characteristics.  Consequences of defect: prolonged use of the car could cause deterioration of the coupling, vibrations in the steering system, and handling difficulty which could result in loss of control and an accident.

Consequence

Corrective Action
Replace the steering pinion extension with a new pregreased part installed with a new bolt.

Notes
Vehicle description: passenger cars.system: steering.
