The Audi 80 received a major facelift in 1991 for the 1992 model year. Known internally as the B4 changes included a longer wheelbase, a fully redesigned fuel tank and rear axle to enable the use of folding seats, 15 inch roadwheels with more prominent wheel arches, redesigned and painted rear and front bumpers, as well as higher-quality materials for the interior. The front grille was merged with the bonnet and given a bolder look.

The range included a 4 door Saloon, 5 door Estate, and 2 door Coupe and Convertible models, and later the sporting S2 Coupe.

Both the Coupé and the Cabriolet were effectively replaced by the first-generation Audi TT coupé and Roadster

DEFECT #1 - POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY

Description
The differential oil of the transaxle is lost over time due to evaporation. Low oil levels cause premature bearing and gear wear and eventual failure of the differential.

Consequence
In the event of failure, the vehicle's drive wheels couldlose power. In extreme circumstances, the front wheels lock, causing rapiddeceleration resulting in possible loss of vehicle control and an accident.

Corrective Action
Drain and replace the differential gear oil with oil having higher performance characteristics.
