On this warm May 7th ,2024 morning, we see the reporter for The Hazzard Range Bulletin, Eve Cooper talking with local rancher Sid Roseski outside Harrison's Hardware Sparta store. Eve is covering Forestry problems, some locals know about, but mostly affects the western part of the county
where residents deal with it on a daily basis. Western part of Hazzard Range County is made up
from The Hazzard Range National Forest, and is still home to some ranches and small
subdivisions along with a few ghost towns. Over the last 40+ years Hazzard Range County
residents have been dealing with more and more government regulations reintroducing
Endangered Species under the Endangered Species Act like Mexican Grey Wolf and
mismanagement of forest land just to name a few things.
While a lot of people think these issues dont affect them, they affect everything from food chain
supply to watershed issues from forest fires and flooding of burn scars for years to come. The
Bulletin hopes to shed some light on these issues that local residents face, even though the
more populated places of the county like Sparta, the county seat or Eagle Lake arent nearly as
affected.

DEFECT #1 - SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DRUM:SHOES/LININGS

Posted on: 1992-03-11
Description
A revised brake lining noise insulator resulted in a decrease in the thermal insulation between the brake lining and the front brake caliper piston.  This caused greater heat transfer to the caliper pistons with the potential to overheat the brake fluid and diminish brake effectiveness during severe braking conditions.

Consequence
Increased stopping distances and inablility to holdvehicles on a steep grade results in increased risk of accident in the event ofa sudden stop or when constant braking is needed to maneuver through areas withsteep grades.

Corrective Action
Add snap-in insulators that attach to each of the front brake caliper pistons.  In addition, vehicles with 7.5 l engines will have insulation added to the engine compartment brake lines.

Notes
System: brakes; front brake lining.vehicle description: f250 and f350 trucks with 7.3 l diesel and 7.5 l efiengines ; f250 and f350 4x4 models with 5.8 l efi engines.note: ford recommends vehicle operators do not exceed the gcwr and gvwr of theirvehicles, and proper maintenance of the brakes on these vehicles and any trailerparticularly when operating in mountainous areas with long, steep grades.

DEFECT #2 - VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR

Posted on: 1988-09-12
Description

Consequence
A fractured window may contain fragments that are largerthan the 425 grams allowed.

Corrective Action
Replace suspect window panels.

Notes
System: rear window glazing/fmvss 205.vehicle description: light duty trucks equipped with optional sliding rearwindow.

DEFECT #3 - SUSPENSION

Posted on: 1988-02-16
Description
Steering/suspension systems may not adequately control steering type wobble allowing the front end to shimmy.

Consequence
Severe shimmy could damage vehicle frame or steeringgear creating potential for loss of steering control.

Corrective Action
Modify and/or replace front suspension and steering components, tires, and frames.

Notes
System: steering/suspension.vehicle description: trucks and chassis cabs.

DEFECT #4 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

Posted on: 1996-05-01
Description
The ignition switch could experience an internal short circuit.

Consequence
This condition could cause overheating, smoke, and possibly fire in the steering column area of the vehicle.

Corrective Action
Dealers will replace the ignition switch.

Notes
System: electrical; ignition switch.  Vehicle description: passenger and multi-purpose vehicles and light duty trucks.  Note: owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time, should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.  Also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.
