Silver Mitsubishi Galant

Mitsubishi, the last of the "little four" Japanese volume brands still offering passenger vehicles for sale in America (the others were Suzuki, Isuzu and, for a year or two, Daihatsu), has gone to the dark side, mostly pushing SUVs (the subcompact Mirage, a car nobody likes, is the exception) and having abandoned the family sedan. So this Mitsubishi Galant I saw in town was a welcome surprise. And out came my flip phone.

This is a 2011 model, with a 2.4-liter inline four. The 2012 model would be the last. This is the ninth-generation Galant, produced at Mitsubishi's factory in Normal, Illinois, now a Rivian plant.

DEFECT #1 - POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Posted on: 1998-07-29
Description
Vehicle description: all wheel drive passenger vehicles.  Lockup of the transfer case can occur due to insufficient lubrication.

Consequence
This condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action
Dealers will inspect the vehicles for adequacy of the transfer case oil volume, transfer case oil leakage, and operational degradation of the transfer case mechanism.  If oil volume is insufficient, the appropriate amount of oil will be added.  If there is transfer case oil leakage, affected components will be replaced.  If the transfer case shows operational degradation, the transfer case will be replaced.
