The Honda CBR900RR, also known as the Fireblade, is a large displacement sport bike introduced in 1992 by Honda. It was the first of the Honda Fireblade models and was designed by Tadao Baba.

The first generation CBR900RR was introduced in 1992 with an 893 cc (54.5 cu in) inline-four engine. Setting the benchmark for lightweight in the superbike class, being much lighter than other large-displacement bikes of the time. The engine dissplacement was achieved by lengthening the stroke of the inline 4-cylinder 750 cc engine Complementing its power performance was the bike's dry weight of just 185 kg.

The CBR900RR was modified as the third generation in 1996, with revised the suspension and chassis improving torsional rigidity. The riding position was also improved by a slight increase in the handlebar height and sweeping them back by 5 degrees. The engine capacity was raised to 919cc by increasing the bore.

DEFECT #1 - SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:CALIPER

Posted on: 1992-05-05
Description
There is inadequate clearance between the front disc pads and the caliper assembly.  Heat build up can cause the brake pad backing plate to expand and bind in the caliper.  The brake pads will continuously contact the brake rotor, overheating the front rotor.

Consequence
The expansion of the brake pad backing plate will causethe brake pads to continuously contact the brake rotor and overheat the frontrotor; causing the front brake rotor to distort, decreasing brake performanceand causing longer stopping distances which could result in an accident.

Corrective Action
Inspect and replace defective brake pads and rotors if necessary.
