Frank G. Campbell, Owner-Founder of Campbell 66 Express with one of his drivers - Circa 1955

Frank G. Campbell formed a transport company starting out with wagons and horses and formed the Campbell Fuel and Transfer Company. Frank chose a standing camel as the logo and local lore says it was because his nickname was Hump. In 1933, he acquired 66 Rapid Express, and Campbell 66 Express was born. The trucks with the camel dubbed Snortin Norton were familiar sights on U.S. Route 66 and throughout the west and midwest.

Mr. Campbell began his career with a wagon that he used to help deal with downed telephone lines in Springfield after a winter storm in 1924, and later to haul butter to Cincinnati. By the time his family sold its interests in Campbell Sixty Six Express in 1985, the company operated in 19 states with nearly 2,000 employees.

Frank Campbell, who went from hauling eggs and butter in a wagon to running a 19-state freight company, died June 23, 1989 after a long illness. He was 82 years old.

DEFECT #1 - SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK

Posted on: 1998-06-02
Description
Vehicle description: trailers equipped with antilock braking system (abs) electronic control units (ecu) for over-the-road trailer applications.  The cover seal (o-ring) may have been improperly installed in certain easy-stop trailer abs electronic control units.  An incorrectly installed seal could permit water to enter the ecu causing a fault to develop.  This will cause the vehicle's trailer abs warning lamp to illuminate immediately when the water contacts the board, deactivating all or part of the abs.

Consequence
If the warning lamp signal is ignored for a period of time, corrosion can develop eventually leaking to a complete loss of ecu function.  The service brakes would continue to be fully functional.

Corrective Action
Rockwell is conducting the notification and remedy for this recall.  Dealers will replace the ecu on these trailers.  Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact rockwell at 1-810-435-8001 or dorsey trailers at 1-334-897-5711.

Notes
Rockwell is conducting the notification and remedy for this recall and owner notification began december 12, 1997.  Also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto sfety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.
