Minor changes followed for 1988 (a model year in transition under the AMC/Chrysler merger) and 1989. 1990 models added a rear wiper on hardtops, with this being the final year for the old AMC 258 six, at 112 HP.

GVWR for 258 six models was 3,500 lb, with 4,500 lb optional. This is a 6 cylinder base Wrangler, factory delivered suggested retail price (FOB Brampton) at $12,029 with 5-speed.
