The newly designed, second generation XK was unveiled in 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. Jaguar's chief designer Ian Callum (who was also responsible for working on the Aston Martin DB7 and Vanquish coupés) claimed that the inspiration for the shape of the new XK came from his admiration for British actress Kate Winslet's curves. The X150's grille was also inspired from the famous 1961 Jaguar E-Type. Initially launched with normally aspirated and supercharged versions of the 4196cc Jaguar AJ-V8 engines producing 300 and 420bhp in 2007 a 254bhp 3.5 litre V8 was added to the range.

The XK received a facelift in 2009 with minor alterations to front and rear lighting and bumper designs, together with the introduction of a new 5.0-litre V8 for both the naturally aspirated XK and the supercharged XKR. The interior also received some changes, in particular the introduction of the XF style rotary gear selector mated to the new ZF automatic transmission. In 2010, Jaguar added the Speed Pack option, with aerodynamic body kit and speed limiter increased to 174 mph (280 km/h), and the Black Pack, with black wheels and trim. The XK received a second and more minor facelift in 2011 with new front bumper and light design, The range was further extended in 2011 with the addition of the new 542bhp XJR-S making it the second fastest Jaguar to date after the XJ 220 Supercar

In March 2011, on the launch of the XKR-S at the Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar revealed the details of a facelift for the 2012 XK MY. The new specification included front and rear styling changes and internal trim changes with navigation system and a backup camera included as standard equipment

Production of the XK ceased in July 2014 without a replacement model until F-Type.

DEFECT #1 - SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Posted on: 2007-05-09
Description
On certain passenger vehicles, the brake servo vacuum supply hose may have been mis-routed during assembly.  This condition may bring the pipe too close to the exhaust gas recirculation (egr) valve and attachments on the exhaust manifold.

Consequence
In the case of a contact condition, the brake vacuum hose may melt leading to a loss of brake assistance increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action
Dealers will inspect the brake vacuum hose routing and adjust as necessary.  The hose will be replaced if there are signs of damage.  The recall began on may 25, 2007.  Owners may contact jaguar at 1-800-452-4827.
