Possibility thatthe induction hardening process in effect at north american rockwell's axleplant may have created high resisual stresses at the inner bearing shoulderarea. These stresses may turn into physical cracks under extended fieldservice. Continued use of the axle after cracking has occurred may cause axlespindle to fracture. (correct by insepecting and replacing axle wherenecessary. )
