Peugeot mikte met de 604 in de topklasse waar BMW en Mercedes heer en meester waren, maar echt een succes werd het nooit in de tien jaar (1975-1985) dat de grote sedan in productie was. Middelmatige prestaties, het gebrek aan technische vernieuwing en roestgevoeligheid waren enkele minpunten. Dat laatste is bij dit exemplaar hierboven goed te zien. In totaal werden er 150.000 exemplaren gebouwd.

Peugeot aimed with the 604 in the top class where BMW and Mercedes ruled, but it never became a real success in the ten years (1975-1985) that the large sedan was in production. Mediocre performance, the lack of technical innovation and susceptibility to rust were some of the downsides. The latter is clearly visible in the one above. A total of 150.000 copies were built.

DEFECT #1 - SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Description
The front brake line connecting the front section of the dual brake master cylinder with the master brake pipe connector was improperly routed in assembly.  This would cause the brake line to chafe against a clamp on the emission control air pump output hose.  Continued abrasion may cuase perforation or rupture of the brake line, resulting in loss of brake fluid and loss of front braking capability.

Consequence

Corrective Action
Dealer will reroute the front brake line to preclude chafing.  If damaged, the brake line will be replaced, without charge to owner.
