DEFECT #1 - LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH

Description
On certain vehicles, the audible signal may not sound when the emergency door release mechanism is not in the closed position and the ignition is in the on position. This does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 217, bus window retention and release.
Consequence
Corrective Action
Dealer will install a modified latch mechanism which will allow activation of the alarm, independent of the door position.

Description
Vehicles may not conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 217, bus window retention and release. Certain vehicles may have gone through production without the deactivation of the key lock in the rear door.
Consequence
Corrective Action
Dealer will install a sheet metal screw in the rear emergency door locking mechanism.
Notes
Vehicle description: school buses.system: structure; rear emergency door lock.consequences of defect: this would allow the engine to be started with theignition switch when the rear emergency door was locked. If the door was lockedduring vehicle operation, passengers could not exit quickly and safely in caseof emergency and serious injuries could result.
