DEFECT #1 - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN

Description
Cracks may develop in the spider member of seven blade fans due to vibrations of greater severity than anticipated.  The cracks may progress to the point of fracture and allow portions of the spider arms and attached blades to separate.

Consequence


Corrective Action
Dealer will replace the fan with one of an improved design.

Vehicle description: heavy trucks equipped with caterpiller 3208 or detroitdiesel 8.2 liter engines.system: engine and engine cooling; cooling fan.consequences of defect: high speed metal fragments from a rotating fan maycause damage in the engine compartment.  If the cab is raised at the time offracture, there may be serious injury to nearby persons.
