Twin rocks at Twin Rocks Cafe

Twin rocks at Twin Rocks Cafe

We couldn't resist stopping in for lunch at the very appropriately named 'Twin Rocks Cafe' during our road trip exploring amazing Utah, USA in 2015. The food was good, though we were just hoping one of those gigantic rocks didn't come crashing down !
Location is at Bluff, a small community at the junction of Hwy.191 and 163, not too far from the stunning buttes and mesas of Monument Valley and many other classic desert landforms. One of my favourite areas in the world.
Contemporary cars (right to left) include:
Jeep Liberty, Chrysler Neon, Toyota Camry XV50, Dodge Avenger/Stratus, ??, white lwb Ford Econoline van, blue Ford F150 supercab pickup, ?
Any comments welcome.

DEFECT #1 - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL

Posted on: 1987-09-09
Description
Vehicles are subject to excessive underhood temperatures and fuel system pressures in severe duty applications.

Consequence
This creates potential for fuel expulsion from the fuelfiller pipe which in the presence of an ignition source, could result in afire.

Corrective Action
Install modification kits to minimize possibility of fuel expulsion and to shield underbody components from exhaust system heat.

Notes
System: fuelvehicle description: 1983 through 1987 e250, e350, club wagons and econolinevans and chassis equipped with 7.5 and 1985 through 1987 e250, e350, club wagonsand econoline vans equipped with 5.8 liter engines.

DEFECT #2 - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL

Posted on: 1987-07-22
Description
Expulsion of fuel due to overpressurization.

Consequence
Fuel or fuel vapors in the presence of an ignitionsource can cause a fire.

Corrective Action
Modification of the base fuel venting and emission control system to reduce operating temperatures and fuel system pressures.

Notes
System: fuel.vehicle description: ambulance, ford econoline e350 cutaway chassis and vans, equipped with 7.5 liter engines.

DEFECT #3 - FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

Posted on: 1985-05-21
Description
When frontally impacted into a fixed barrier at 30 mph, as specified in federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) no.  301, the left frame rails of such vehicles may displace inboard, pinching the fuel/water separator canister between the frame rail and engine sufficiently to displace the fuel/water separator drain rod, allowing the contents of the canister to drain.  Consequence of defect: fuel leak during or after a crash increases the possibility of a fire.

Consequence

Corrective Action
Install a canister shield, a revised design drain rod shield, and modify fuel/water separator mounting bracket.

Notes
Vehicle description: vans, super vans, super wagons and club wagons equippedwith 6.9 liter diesel engines.  System: fuel/fmvss 301.

DEFECT #4 - FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Posted on: 1982-12-17
Description
Some of the involved vehicles may have a diode in the electrical fuel pump circuit that may short during engine starting due to inadequate capacity to withstand current draw.  A short circuit would result in normal engine starting, but the pump will not continue to supply the engine with fuel.

Consequence

Corrective Action
The dealer will replace defective element in the electrical fuel pump circuit with a new relay feed wiring assembly which contains a larger capacity diode, free of charge.

Notes
Vehicle description: light trucks and multipurpose passenger vehicles.system: fuel; fuel pump.consequences of defect: under such circumstances, a vehicle may stall withoutprior warning, creating the potential for a vehicle accident.  (vehicle willrestart but will stall again in 5 to 10 seconds).

DEFECT #5 - POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Posted on: 1983-03-11
Description
The parking gear may not engage, even though the gear shift lever is placed in the park position.  This occurs if the linkage inside the transmission that actuates the park gear was improperly manufactured.  A pin that retains components on a linkage (actuating) rod could break and the linkage may not engage the parking gear.

Consequence

Corrective Action
Dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the parking pawl actuating rod assembly.

Notes
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with automatic overdrivetransmissions.system: power train; transmission, parking pawl actuating assembly.consequences of defect: if the parking brake is not applied and the parkinggear does not engage, unexpected vehicle movement could cause an accident andpersonal injury.note: drivers should always apply the parking brake whenever leaving thevehicle.

Posted on: 2007-08-24
Description
Certain federal-mogul aftermarket fuel pumps sold under the brand names of carter, accuflow, napa, truflow, parts depo, and parts master, shipped between august 2006 and july 2007 for use on the vehicles listed above.  The fuel pump diaphragm in certain production runs may have been improperly installed or inadequately tested which may cause the fuel pump to leak.

Consequence
A leaking fuel pump could create a vehicle fire hazard.

Corrective Action
Federal-mogul will notify owners and replace the defective fuel pumps free of charge.  The recall began on october 15, 2007.  Owners can contact federal-mogul at 248-354-7700.
