Recalls for 1993 Wayne Lifestar

DEFECT #1 - FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Description
The fuel tank protection barrier collapsed during impact testing.  This does not meet the requirements of fmvss no.  301, fuel system integrity.

Consequence
In the event of a collision, the fuel tank can rupture, leaking fuel increasing the potential for a vehicle fire.

Corrective Action
Owners will be provided with replacement fuel barriers and installation instructions.

DEFECT #2 - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM

Description
Insufficient torquing of bolts on the clamps used to secure adjoining sections of the exhaust system can cause the sections to separate from the clamps, and can allow exhaust gas to leak under the vehicle.

Consequence
If the exhaust system separates under an operating vehicle, exhaust gas can migratie into the interior of the bus.

Corrective Action
Dealers will inspect all exhaust system clamps to assure they are properly secured.  Until the buses are inspected and repaired, they should only be operated with adequate outside ventilation.
