Wallace, Idaho

This existing building was built onto with facades and an extended roof to become the motel. Interior scenes were filmed within these added on spaces, as well as on sets built locally around Wallace and neighboring towns, using large spaces like school gymnasiums.

The film Dante's Peak was filmed largely in or around the town of Wallace, Idaho in 1996, with additional locations in California. This collection recreates and expands my original 2007 edition, comparing scenes from the movie with their real life counterparts, taken in 2017. Still my favorite movie, enjoy!

DEFECT #1 - PARKING BRAKE:CONVENTIONAL:MECHANICAL:LINKAGE AND CABLE

Description
The parking brake cable is routed to the right rear wheel causing it to cross and contact the steel brake line.  This can cause the abrasion and rupture of the steel brake line resulting in a loss of brake fluid.

Consequence
Loss of brake fluid due to the rupture of the steel brake line causes loss of rear braking capability which can result in extended stopping distances and can cause an accident.

Corrective Action
Dealers will reroute the parking brake cable away from the steel brake line.  The steel brake line will be replaced if abrasion or wear is evident.
