At the backside of a fourplex in Savannah were a spectacularly elaborate staircase and a grass parking lot.

Sunning in the grass were a 2004 Toyota Tundra and a 2019 Nissan Altima, take your pick. The doors are unlocked and the keys are inside.

The fourplex is 201-203 E Park Ave and was built circa 1888 according to its record in the GNAHRGIS database, but this portion is a rear addition built sometime later, nobody knows when.

DEFECT #1 - VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Posted on: 1994-03-01
Description
Engine movement can be transmitted to the airflow meter/filter housing and support bracket, which is mounted in the engine air duct, causing the throttle cable housing to pull out of the cable guide.  This may prevent the throttle from returning to the idle position when the gas pedal is released.

Consequence
If this were to occur while the vehicle is in motion, loss of throttle control could result in an accident.

Corrective Action
Nissan will reposition the throttle cable housing in the support bracket to provide additional slack for engine movement.  A rubber stopper will be clamped to the cable to maintain the correct position for the cable at the support bracket.  In addition, the throttle cable will be tested for pull out resistance from the guide in the event the cable was damaged.  The throttle assembly will be replaced, if necessary.

Notes
System: fuel; throttle linkages and control. Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. Note: if your vehicle is presented to an authorized dealer on an agreed uponservice date and the remedy is not provided within a reasonable time and free of charge or the remedy does not correct the defect or noncompliance, please contact nissan service at 1-310-532-3111. Also, contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393

DEFECT #2 - AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Posted on: 2003-04-29
Description
Nissan is recalling my 1994 and early 1995 altima vehicles following reports that passenger air bag deployments in these vehicles had caused a number of moderate-to-severe eye injuries.  Nissan has developed a new passenger air bag that is less powerful when it inflates in a crash to reduce the risk of air bag inflation-related injuries.

Consequence
Nissan expects that this new air bag can help reduce the risk of air bag inflation-related injuries.

Corrective Action
Nissan will replace the passenger air bag at no charge to the consumer.  The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began april 28, 2003.  Owners should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

Notes
Nissan campaign no. P3115. This action is deemed a safety improvement campaign and is not being conducted under the safety act. The company has informed nhtsa that it will provide the modifications described above free of charge

DEFECT #3 - EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Posted on: 2006-03-23
Description
Certain pro-a motors corner lamps, turn signals, and headlights sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles listed above.  Some combination lamps that are not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no.  108, lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

Consequence
Without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash without warning.

Corrective Action
Pro-a motors will notify owners and offer to repurchase the lamps.  The recall began on april 3, 2006.  Owners may contact pro-a motors at 323-838-2988.

Notes
This recall only pertains to pro-a motors aftermarket lamps and has no relation to any original equipment installed on the listed passenger vehicles. DEFECT #4 - SUSPENSION

Posted on: 2010-02-11
Description
Ride control is recalling certain front strut mounts branded as gabriel ride control or arvinmeritor, p/nos.  142435, 142193, 142305, 142303, sold as replacement equipment for the vehicles listed above.  The affected front strut mounts did not contain a weld joint between the bearing housing and the rate plate.

Consequence
The absence of the weld can allow the strut to come out of its mounting position under certain extreme driving conditions which could cause damage to surrounding vehicle components increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action
Ride control will notify owners of record and replace the affected parts free of charge.  The safety recall began on march 15, 2010.  Owners may contact ride control at 1-248-458-1396.

Notes
