DEFECT #1 - EQUIPMENT:AIR CONDITIONER

Description
Vehicle description: chevrolet and gmc conversion vans equipped with twin air ultra rear heating and air conditioning units and converted by southern comfort conversions.  The heater and air conditioning units contain a resistor coil that can overheat when the fan is running at a low speed.

Consequence
This could cause a fire within the unit.

Corrective Action
Dealers will replace the resistor coil in these units.

Notes
Owner notification began february 10, 1998.  Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact southern comfort at 1-800-745-6096.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).
