Also known as the Hyundai Tiburon or Tuscani, the second generation model was launched in 2001. With a revised, smoother styling, larger dimensions and an optional V6 2.7 litre engine. Base model retained a 138bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, rising to 172bhp from the 2,7 litre V6 from Hyundai's Sonata and Santa Fe. A five-speed manual transmission was standard, and a four-speed automatic was optional.
The Coupe was given its first facelift in late 2004 for the 2005 model year with minor tweaks incorporating reworked sleeker blackened "smoked" headlights, redesigned rear tail lights, more aggressive front air dam, a different range of alloy wheel designs,

A second more comprehensive facelift occured in November 2006 for the 2007 model year, re-titling the Coupe as a Ser.III in some markets including Great Britain The headlights are thinner and angled more aggressively; somewhat similar to the original Tiburon headlights with more straight/sharp lines. The tail lights are similar to the RD2 and GK1 but are somewhat smaller and reflect an aftermarket styling. The fenders lose the "gill fins" and other small changes are seen. The interiors were refreshed with brushed aluminium accents, new blue backlight scheme for gauges and instrumentation and new seats.

Hyundai later introduced the limited, special edition TSIII (UK). This upgraded, limited edition included quilted leather interior with embroidered logos, stiffer sports suspension, quad exhaust exit pipes, a higher level rear spoiler and an anthracite finish to the alloy wheels. The performance of the TSIII remained the same as the SIII.

DEFECT #1 - SEAT BELTS:FRONT:WEBBING

Posted on: 2001-11-15
Description
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles.  The driver and front passenger seat belts may not extend and retract smoothly through the d-ring guides mounted on the body pillars aft of the doors.  If the seat belts do not extend and retract smoothly, they may twist in the d-ring guides and make it inconvenient to extend and retract the seat belts.

Consequence
If the seat belts are inconvenient to use, the seat occupant may not be inclined to wear the seat belts properly, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Corrective Action
Dealers will install a stopper over each front seat belt d-ring guide to assist the seat belt to smoothly extend and retract.  Owner notification began december 10, 2001.  Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.
