DEFECT #1 - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM

Description
Vehicle description: motorcycles.  A coolant water hose can come loose at the thermostat housing during operation.

Consequence
Steam released could obscure the rider's vision or leaking coolant could make the rear tire slip.

Corrective Action
Dealers will install and properly tighten two new hose clamps.

Notes
Owner notification began july 14, 1999.  Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact yamaha at 1-800-962-7926.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).  

DEFECT #2 - POWER TRAIN

Description
Vehicle description: motorcycles.  The primary driven gear backing plate (clutch basket) can break causing the engine components to lock up.

Consequence
This condition can lead to rear wheel lock up increasing the risk of a vehicle crash or personal injury.

Corrective Action
Dealers will install a new primary driven gear and related parts.
