Hot Red R32

At the end of the Volkswagen Golf's fourth generation, VW offered the R32, a road-rally version of the venerable hatchback with a limited run of 5,000 cars per market. It was essentially a Golf GTI on steroids, with a 240-horse 3.2-liter V-6 and all-wheel drive. It was a spiritua lsuceessor of the Mark 2 Golf-based Rallye Golf, a car that never made it to the United States.

The R32 carried on into the Golf's fifth generation but was replaced by the R, with a smaller engine with two fewer cylinders that nonetheless packed more power, for the sixth generation of the Golf.

Back in 1989, when we in the States had the base Golf, VW fans wanted the Rallye but couldn't get it. Now we have the R but can't get the base model. Zeus sent the stork.

THis R32 is a 2004 model.
