DEFECT #1 - WHEELS

Description
On certain heavy duty class 8 trucks equipped with accuride aluminum wheels, the wheels were not properly pre-stressed.  This allows cracks to develop over time.  

Consequence
This may eventually lead to wheel failure and possibly result in a vehicle crash.

Corrective Action
Dealers will replace the wheels free of charge.  The recall began on may 13, 2005.  Owners may contact international at 1-800-448-7825.

DEFECT #2 - SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:CONTROLS:FOOT CONTROL

Description
On certain chassis, trucks, and tractors equipped with air brakes, the push rod that connects the brake pedal to the brake valve was manufactured incorrectly and could break under certain loading conditions.

Consequence
If this push rod breaks while a vehicle is in operation, a partial loss of service braking may be experienced.  This could result in a vehicle crash without warning.

Corrective Action
Dealers will replace the push rods free of charge.  The recall began on june 3, 2005.  Owners may contact international at 1-800-448-7825.

DEFECT #3 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Description
Navistar is recalling 51,588 heavy trucks, commercial buses and school buses manufactured between november 21, 2000 and may 21, 2008, equipped with one or more remote power modules.  The potting material that encapsulates the circuit board of the vehicle's remote power module may not sufficiently seal the circuit board from water and contamination intrusion.  If the encapsulation is compromised, water and contaminants may cause an internal electrical short, possibly resulting in a fire.

Consequence
A fire could cause personal injury or death.

Corrective Action
Navistar will notify owners and repair the vehicles free of charge.  The recall began on july 10, 2008.  Owners may contact navistar at 1-280-461-1890.
