I park my 2010 Buick Lucerne at a boarded-up commercial building from the late 19th century, painted in light grayish green, light bluish green, and salmon.

I would paint the brick wall olive green, the infills and boards chartreuse, and the arches and sills white, to match the colors of my favorite pair of basketball shorts. But it's not my decision to make, not my building to paint.

Okay here goes:
This is in Freeport, Illinois.
The July 1897 Sanborn fire insurance map of Freeport identifies this as the Anzeiger Building at 97 Galena Street (which was renumbered/renamed to its current address, 1 East Main Street, sometime later). It is depicted as a 3-story building, with "B. Press R'm & Off." on the first floor, "Compos'g & Electro-Typing" on the second, and "Book Bindery" on the third.
A 1910 history of Stephenson County, Illinois, says the "Anzeiger Building, a large three-story brick structure at the corner
of Chicago and Galena Streets, which houses one of the most complete and up-to-date printing plants in the state" was built in 1886 by "William Wagner, the venerable editor and publisher of the Anzeiger."
But!, the 1890 fire insurance map (the earliest available online) shows a shorter two-story building at this location, labeled "water motor printing." Wtf? Did the Anzeiger Building start as a shorter two-story building? Or is the 1910 history book wrong about the 1886 date?, and if so was the building depicted on the 1890 map demolished and replaced sometime between the 1890 and 1897 maps?
Meanwhile, on Google Streetview I discovered there's a "Downtown Freeport Century Building" plaque on the building saying it was built in 1897. Wtf?
I sought to resolve the discrepancy by consulting city directories at AncestryLibrary.com, but no: Both the 1894 and 1905 directories (the earliest available) show "Hoffman & Buss" at this address. Wtf?
So "late 19th century" is as specific as I can get. My 2010 Buick Lucerne and I are gone from here, and we will probably never be back.

In downtown Freeport, Illinois, on August 15th, 2021, at the back end of the Anzeiger Building at the southeast corner of East Main Street and South Chicago Avenue. Part of the building contains the Landmark Restaurant, so it's not entirely abandoned.

DEFECT #1 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BATTERY:CABLES

Posted on: 2010-11-09
Description
General motors is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 dts and buick lucerne vehicles equipped with v8 engines.  The starter or alternator cable is in contact with the power steering return line.  If either the starter or alternator cable is contacting the power steering return line, the cable could wear through the line, causing a power steering fluid leak.

Consequence
A power steering leak could result in a loss of power steering, increasing the risk of a crash, and/or the leak onto hot engine parts could cause an engine compartment fire.

Corrective Action
Dealers will secure and if necessary reroute the lines to prevent contact.  This service will be performed free of charge.  The safety recall began on november 19, 2010.  Owners may contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, buick at 1-866-608-8080 and at the owner center at www.gmownercenter.com.

DEFECT #2 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

Posted on: 2014-06-23
Description
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system.  Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key.  The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring.  General motors llc (gm) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 buick lacrosse, 2006-2011 buick lucerne, 2000-2005 cadillac deville, 2006-2011 cadillac dts, 2006-2014 chevrolet impala, and 2006-2007 chevrolet monte carlo vehicles.  In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.

Consequence
If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.  Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Corrective Action
Gm will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge.  The recall began on september 23, 2014.  Owners may contact general motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (buick), 1-800-458-8006 (cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (chevrolet).  Gm's number for this recall is 14299.
