My Last SAAB

My Last SAAB

Along Lake Michigan on the Upper Peninsula.

When the 9-4x was introduced, I test drove one at Gary Small Saab in Portland, Oregon. I loved the car, and talked to the owner of Dana Motors in Billings, Montana about getting one. Then GM cut Saab loose. I bought this one online from a Chevy dealer in Plymouth, Wisconsin. I was the second owner. The first, according to the title, was General Motors, Inc. My first road trip was to take the Saab from the dealership north into Michigan, then across the Upper Peninsula, and finally south and east to visit family in West Virginia. I loved the car, although the seat bolsters cut into my thighs which was very uncomfortable. My last drive was to Jaremko Saab in Spokane, Washington for a regular check up. On the way home, I fell asleep driving on Interstate 90 in Idaho, went into the median where the car became airborne and landed on its nose. Because parts were not available, the car was totalled. I cannot complain. I walked away from what could have been a fatal accident.

DEFECT #1 - SUSPENSION:REAR

Posted on: 2014-09-19
Description
General motors llc (gm) is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 cadillac srx vehicles manufactured april 14, 2009, to september 1, 2014, and 2011-2012 saab 9-4x vehicles manufactured february 1, 2011, to september 13, 2011.  On the affected vehicles, the jam nut in the rear suspension toe adjuster link may not be torqued to the proper specification.  A loose toe adjuster link can cause the vehicle to sway or wander at highway speeds.  A loose toe adjuster link may lead to thread damage and eventual failure.  Failure of the toe adjuster link will cause an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment.

Consequence
Failure of the toe adjuster link could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action
Gm will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the torque of the left and right rear toe link adjuster lock nuts, and replace the parts if there is evidence of damage or a loose link, free of charge.  The the recall began november 11, 2014.  Owners may contact cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or saab customer service at 1-800-955-9007.  Gm's number for this recall is 14457.
