A CFE crew were working on electrical service in Centro Cuautitlán - click, click.

The federal government created the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), 14 August, 1937 to organize and direct a national system of generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy, based on technical and economic principles, non-profit, to obtain the highest possible performance for the benefit of the general population at a minimum cost.

27 September, 1960, President Adolfo López Mateos nationalized the electrical industry to increase the level of electrification in Mexico.

As of October 2009, CFE is in charge of providing electricity service throughout the country.

The company's operation is organized into 4 processes: generation, transmission, distribution and provider of basic services.

CFE is Mexico's second most powerful state-owned company after Pemex with 80,000+ employees.

CFE owns Mexicos only nuclear power plant, Laguna Verde located on the Gulf coast at Alto Lucero, Veracruz. The plant opened in 1990 with one unit and a second unit started in 1995.
