On the surface, a naked sports bike is a bit of a compromise: lots of performance but absolutely no wind protection which makes them tiring to ride for any length of time. However, because of that lack of bodywork, they are often described as a purer form of a sports motorcycle, with little to get in the way of the riding experience and always with a more relaxed riding position, which makes them so much more accessible. Some naked sports bikes are simply faired motorcycles with the fairing removed, which is a good idea as it gives the manufacturers two motorcycles for the development price of one.

DEFECT #1 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS

Description
Indian motorcycle company (indian) is recalling certain 2019 chieftain, vintage, roadmaster, dark horse, springfield, and ftr1200 motorcycles. A 10a circuit breaker may be defective, tripping unexpectedly and causing a sudden loss of power and an engine stall.

Consequence
An engine stall increases the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action
Indian will notify owners and provide a new 10a circuit breaker and installation instructions. Owners may choose to have the part installed at a dealership, free of charge. The recall began january 22, 2020. Owners may contact indian customer service at 1-877-204-3697. Indian's number for this recall is i-19-05.

DEFECT #2 - EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS

Description
Indian motorcycle company (indian) is recalling certain 2020-2022 challenger, challenger dark horse, challenger limited, 2022 challenger dark horse icon, challenger elite, ftr 1200, ftr 1200 rally, ftr 1200 s, ftr 1200 r carbon, pursuit dark horse, challenger jd limited edition, pursuit limited icon, pursuit dark horse premium, pursuit limited, pursuit limited premium, 2019-2020 ftr 1200 s, ftr 1200, and 2020 ftr 1200 rally motorcycles.  The brake lights may illuminate unexpectedly and without brake application from the rider.  As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 108, lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

Consequence
Unintended illumination of the brake lights may create confusion for the drivers following the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action
Dealers will update the abs module software, free of charge.  Owner notification letters were mailed march 1, 2024.  Owners may contact indian customer service at 1-877-204-3697.  Indian's number for this recall is i-24-03.
